I just thought I'd pop in to give you all a treat. I'd mentioned this in quick notes and everyone got crazy, so here it is. My tech guru, who's been using computers since 1971, recommended this to me. He's been visually-impaired for many years now, so he's fully aware of adaptive technology etc. In any case, this is a portable scanner that connects to your usb port and can be taken anywhere. He says the quality of the scans is amazing. Just imagine being able to scan something like a restaurant menu on the go! And the price won't kill you either. He found it for $120, but I found it for $140. The one drawback is that it only works with Windows.

Here's a pdf file directly from the manufacturer.

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying it and then just installing XP via Fusion on the Mac so I can use it. If you know of any similar scanners, regardless of the opperating system, let me know.

If this is the one I think it is, it is a nifty looking little scanner. Actually we have some in the tech lab (I should know, I installed them.) I'll have to play with it to see what I think of the quallity of scan. It's very light weight, and is, as I believe said above, powered by the USB port.

I found three other scanners on the main site. They seem similar to each other and unlike the first one, they're Mac compatible. They're all usb powered and are priced even lower than the one in my first post. But I don't know about the size.

Really looking for help here because I really need a new scanner for my job.

Yup, I recommended and installed the canon lide90 in our lab and it works quite well with Kurzweil 1000.

if you found a mac compatible scanner what other help are you needing. they usually come with ocr software built in to the drivers on the mac. atleast my hp all in one did.
